Riyadh –IECEP KSA CRC held its 3rd Technical Seminar last 11th of March 2016 at the Orchid Al Mansour Hotel in Riyadh. This seminar is a part of IECEP’s campaign to offer its members top quality seminars to satisfy their professional development needs. The seminar was attended by more than 50 professionals.
Kenneth Vallespin, PMP, Prince2, ECE, ASEAN Eng was the speaker of the seminar. Engr. Vallespin is currently a Telecom Project Engineer in a telecom contracting firm in Saudi Arabia. A former member of the Faculty of Engineering in University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and has taught Advanced Mathematics, Higher Telecom Design, Electronics and Semiconductor Theory, Computer Architecture and Major Elective subjects. A Motorola UK trained professional in TETRA/Dimetra Systems (Nov-Dec/2012).
Engr. Vallespin started the discussion from the conventional and trunking basics, where it consists of trunking basic rules and trunking advantages on spectral efficiency, dynamic radio channel allocation.
The discussion is followed by TETRA Standard. TETRA is a Voice + Data radio communication protocol based on an open standard developed by European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI). He discussed the main purpose of TETRA standard was to define a series of open interfaces, as well as services and facilities, in sufficient detail to enable independent manufacturers to develop infrastructure and terminal products that would fully interoperate with each other as well as meet the needs of traditional PMR users and organizations.
Trunking Basic Rules discussion of Engr. Vallespin
Afterwards Engr Vallespin, discussed the benefits of an open standards such as economies of scale resulting in competitive solutions, second source security, evolution, choice of manufacturers for new products, diversity, competition for future needs and interoperability.
After the break, Engr. Vallespin continued the discussion with the TETRA Services and Features. This is composed of basic services and facilities such as Group Call (Talkgroup calls), Pre-Emptive prirority Call (emergency call), Call Retention, Priority Call, Busy Queuing, Direct Mode Operation (DMO), Dynamic Group Number Assignment (DGNA), Ambience Listening, Area Selection, Late Entry and Voice Encryption.
The discussion is followed by the TETRA Standard Interface. There are different interface used in TETRA such as Switching and Management Infrastructure (SWMI), Air Interface, Peripheral Equipment Interface, Remote Dispatcher Interface, Interfacing with the PSTN, the ISDN and/or a PABX, Inter-System Interface, and Network Management Interface.
The last part of the seminar was discussion about the TETRA System Architecture. TETRA is composed of different Zone Subsystems such as Radio Subsystems, Call Processing Subsystem, Transport Subsystem, Network Management Subsystem, Data Subsystem and Telephone Interconnect Subsystem.
IECEP-KSA-CRC successfully conducted the seminar and Engr. Vallespin shared his technical experiences and knowledge to attendees.
