IECEP KSA Central Region Chapter conducted its first free seminar held at Elite International Riyadh Saudi Arabia on January 27, 2013.The seminars whose theme was “Leadership and Teambuilding” was attended by around 30 participants. Many of the attendees are elected Board of Directors and committee leaders of IECEP-KSA-CRC and also include some guest leaders from Philippine Professional Organization (PPO-CRSA).
The seminar started with an opening and welcome remarks of Engr. Moody Gibas, the newly elected IECEP President and PPO-CRSA chairman for the year 2013.
Immediate past PPO-CRSA president Engr. Rolando Nicolas also participated in the event. The resource speakers were from Toastmaster International who regularly conducts communication and leadership seminars. Everyone was excited in listening to the toastmaster’s way of leadership, management, building relationships, and building a successful team.
The first portion of the event was the contribution of the keynote speaker Miss Jovett Lopez, one of the invited members from the Toastmaster International. Her presentation which carried more of an introduction of leadership gave a soul move by using some inspiring movie clips. The video rendered more highlights and clear overview of what is leadership and team building all about and inspired the listeners during the event.
The speakers gave also a chance for each participant to be involved in the discussion and evaluate their own leadership and team building skills as they participated in the actual team building workshop. In deed the workshop was a very good start for everyone to share and exchange their ideas and to collaborate in a team environment especially to those who are already manager and team leader inside companies in Saudi Arabia.
The second most awaited speaker was Mr. Ramon Austria graduated from MAPUA and one of the active Toastmaster International members. He has been working in KSA for around 6 years. Mr. Austria discussed the development and challenges face by OFW as leader of their own personal challenges such as financial freedom and the likes as many OFWs came to Saudi Arabia with a promise to bring their own family a complete package of financial freedom but only few of them actually succeed.
In order to strengthen what has been learned on that portion of the event, participants were divided into two groups. Each group was brought into an IQ test (with 6 nails and a wood) with an objective to arrange the nails hanging in the wood. The purpose of the test was to bring individual ideas and challenge each team on how they can work together with limited resources at hand and using simple creativity.
The event inspired most of the participants by giving personalized test. There was also a form distributed designed to be fill up and when graph resulted to a circular shape which represents relationship on specific areas of life. This shows the level of your focus on certain areas of your life and what have you have done already or things needed to be done. A circle was drawn on the form connecting all paths. This was called a Circle of life or in other words the Self-Dimension Grid according to the speaker.
Such seminar give lot of helps but that was only 4 hours session where everyone hanged up. Everyone agreed there was a lack of time. But overall the seminar was so good and it was done successfully. The center of the seminar is more on leadership rather than technical things. It also reaffirms the pedagogy of the mission and visions of the IECEP-KSA-CRC where trust and cooperation among members carried the equal opportunities for the success of the ongoing leaders and officers as well as success of course of all members and the organization as a whole.
