Path to Communications and Leadership Certification and Fundamentals of Multiprotocol Label Switching Seminar
“Nurture the team as often as possible” that is one of the main focus of IECEP KSA Central Region to nurture its members with innovation of today’s fast growing technology as they conduct their 5thtechnical seminar last 31st of May 2013 held at Elite International School, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on “Path to Toastmaster Communication & Leadership Certification and Fundamentals of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). Around 35 participants gathered together, 27 of which are IECEP members, 6 are IECEP officers and 2 are from the Toastmaster.
The seminar on Path to Toastmaster Communication & Leadership Certification was presented by TM Larry Ortega, Civil Engineer and very active member of Toastmaster International Riyadh Chapter. TM Larry Ortega discussed what is communication and leadership to Engineers and introduces Toastmaster educational program on how IECEP members and officers benefits on this program. As he says most of the engineers are identified to have communications weaknesses, engineers are more focus on technical skills rather than on communications skills. He also pointed out that “Engineers are more capable on thinking, analyzing, solving complex problem but afraid of stand up in front of an audience and do public speaking.” With this factor TM LarryOrtega discussed on how to developed communication and leadership skills through toastmaster communication and leadership certification in which Engineers needed to translate complex information into plain terms in their work and to heighten their professional development. He’s presentation ended with the question among the participants who will partake the challenge to stand up and speak in front of a group and lead them in their professional development.
The second part of the seminar entitled “Fundamentals of Multiprotocol Label Switching” was conducted by Engr. Ian M. Geneta, System and Network Engineer and IECEP KSA CRC Board of Director. He is currently working on a C4I Project for the joint-forces of Saudi Arabia, in which MPLS is one of the next-generation networks to be implemented for this project. The main focus of this seminar is to provide the foundations of MPLS and why is the most preferred Wide Area Network link as today. He pointed out that “MPLS is a high-performance telecommunications next-generations network IP based switching technology that directs data from one network node to the next based on short path labels rather than long network address, avoiding complex lookups in a routing table.” Engr. Ian discussed on its outline the MPLS Concepts, Architecture, Operation and Implementation in which he deliver a brief overview of the most important applications of MPLS, the MPLS architecture which focuses on the basic building blocks. The MPLS Operation which describe the label forwarding, label distribution protocol and how a router uses it to advertise the MPLS labels. He also discussed some basic configuration on customer edge to implement the MPLS. Today’s very fast growing technology and with very network applications one of the platforms that enable to deliver advance services is through MPLS infrastructure.
