In a rare topic focus on Management, members of IECEP-KSA-CRC gathered on its 10th Technical Seminar entitled Introduction to Lean Six Sigma and Management for Engineers. In this session, there are around 45 members who wants to be a manager.
Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects (driving towards six standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any process-from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.
This was the topic discussed by our Green Belter Sig Sigma expert Engr. Benedict Madariaga. He also emphasized the benefits of six sigma management to the organization and benefits to stakeholders such as improved process flow, reduced cycle time, enhanced knowledge, increased productivity, and decreased inventory among others. He provided information about the different belts used in Six Sigma such as Champion, Master Black Belt, Black Belt, Green Belt and Yellow Belt.
Engr. Madariaga also discussed the DMAIC Model for improvement. DMAIC is an acronym for define, measure, analyze, improve and control. This is a method used in Six Sigma Management to move from existing system to the revised system in Six Sigma.
The second topic was handled by Engr. ConstantinoAcance. The topic discussed was Management for Engineers. It is known today that Engineers are very good in technical matters but how they will cope up when Engineer handles managerial role is a big challenge.
Organization and companies requires people that can integrate the technical and business skills in order to solved difficult problems arising in the company. In the complex, competitive world of technology driven industry, skilled engineers who understand the essential principles of business have a tremendous competitive advantage.
Engr. Acance discussed the necessities of engineers to have management skills to help engineers managed their work and other resources in their day to day activities. It is important for engineers to develop management skills in their career.
When an engineer becomes a manager of the company, he has to organize work plan well and put into practice this work. He has to find out the best way to handle the important tasks and expenditure of information within the company. Management determines the division of work according to its need.
IECEP-KSA-CRC successfully conducted the seminars and Engr. Madariaga and Engr. Acance shares their experiences, knowledge and their managerial skills to attendees.
